Continental Building Systems began renovating 280,000 sq. ft. of office space to accommodate the international law firm of K&L Gates. The space will spread across 14-stories in the 37-story One Oliver Plaza in downtown Pittsburgh and will require meticulous attention to detail to transfer the specific design intentions into a vibrant working environment supporting the company’s global image. Unique elements include removing portions of upper floors to create a dramatic 2-story lobby area and a separate 2-story world-class conferencing center. Innovative and striking office and work areas will be created using clean lines, modern furnishings and materials within a contained color palette. In addition to the office renovations, substantial upgrades will be made to the main building lobby, exterior facade and surrounding plaza to complete the buildings transformation.
The challenge handed to CBS was not only to deliver the space with uncompromising quality and finish on an aggressive budget, but to accomplish this in an active office environment, across multiple stories, and complete it all in just 31 weeks. This averages out to delivering over 9,000 sq. ft. of completed office space each week or 1,800 sq. ft. per day (think of it as an average size home being built/completed every working day). Now that’s a challenge, and one we are embracing for our client.
